CURRENT PROJECTS FOR MAXTRAC SUSPENSION’S R&D: 2019+ GM 1500 “MONO-LEAF” REAR FLIP KIT
Here at MaxTrac Suspension we strive to develop products and kits for the platforms that our customers are asking for. Currently in development, the R&D team has been focusing on a lowering kit for GM’s new “mono-leaf” rear suspension setup. This design veers away from the traditional metal leaf pack and replaces it with a single, non-metallic leaf spring that has a solid attachment at both ends.
Yes, that is correct. Some of these 2019+ Silverado/Sierra 1500 trucks are now equipped with a non-metallic, mono-leaf. There is only one leaf spring and no shackle for this suspension system to pivot on. Rather this “mono-leaf” arches upward and flexes much like a bow from a “bow-and-arrow” would do. The mono-leaf trucks do not have a standard metal center pin and the spring perch (to which the spring mounts on the axle) is a solid, castle steel design.
Given all of these new parameters, many of the traditional lowering components that we are used to seeing cannot be utilized. Such items as drop shackles or traditional axle relocators will not fit this unique application.
Due to popular demand, our first order of business will be designing a flip kit for the rear spring. With the omission of a rear shackle from the factory, the design will most likely be fixed at one height setting. Also, with the combo of a through-mounting center pin and the factory cast steel spring perch, creativity will need to be exercised to the fullest. The goal is to create an axle relocator that safely and properly mounts to the axle while also allowing for a smooth, streamlined install.
Stay tuned for more progress as it develops.
